Until Katrina and 9/11 only groups like the Red Cross, the military and EPA really worried about emergency preparedness in the USA. Then came the movie ’2012′, and for several months following its release a large portion of the population grew overly concerned about survival due to natural and manmade disasters. Then the hubbub sort of died away for many.
A Lull Before The Storm
Following this false sense of security and the notion that none of that is real – the world will go on just as it always has set in – and made folks pretty comfortable. Then came Haiti. They’re still asking for donations for that mess. Mind you the numbers of people who would connect this violence to the approach of 2012 is small in comparison to global population. The vast majority, would definitely concur if asked, ‘Is 2012 real?’, would respond that yes it will be when New Years Day is celebrated into being in style.
Unfortunately, most put all their accumulation of knowledge into the hands of the television once they finish school. Mainstream media not only debunks 2012 theories, they make little mention of the fact that all 2012 prophecies never stated that 2012 predictions would actually occur at a certain hour on December 21, 2012. Precision is something that ails today’s society. It does not assail the solar system, nor was it held in such esteem by forefathers of any country or culture.
Nature Is Anything But Precise
No one predicted or even prophesized the mega earthquake and subsequent tsunami that took place in Japan in March of 2011. The worst disaster of its kind to have befallen the Japanese in over 300 years. Suddenly after months of slumber, millions of minds are waking up to the reality that massive disaster could arrive, without prediction or prophecy. In fact, it could happen tomorrow – anywhere around the globe.
The big question is are you prepared? And, if so – what are you prepared to face and for how long? Some think that having a few bottles of water and some canned goods on hand is disaster preparedness. What will they do when the flashlight batteries die and no power resumes in a day or two? How will they treat wounds or illness? If the world you know is forever rendered altered – how will you maintain health and sanitary living conditions? What happens when you run out of bottled water?
Chemical Anything Has A Short Shelf Life
Band-Aids, rubbing alcohol and few other items one would stock up on for a first aid kit or survival medical supply will remain good and viable for many years. But what about your easily obtained Neosporin and Iodine? These things have a temporary shelf life and are ineffective if outdated. Not only that, you almost need a spare room to store a comprehensive emergency preparedness kit based on the most acceptable and commonly available products of this type. Something every pharmaceutical company is banking on – that you’ll need to refresh your supply whether it is used up or not.
For the more important things like antibiotics, you need a prescription, and these too have a short life span. You could be at a complete loss unless a disaster occurs within 1 year of preparing for its arrival. The thing is, you don’t have to rely on short lived over-the-counter cures. Or the even costlier (and stingy) providence of modern pharmaceuticals your doctor prescribes. These things aren’t created with disaster survival in mind, they are products that rely on the continuity of today’s world. It’s all about the mindset that you can always buy more. WHAT IF YOU CAN’T BUY MORE – LET ALONE ANY? Do you really think that in the worst hit areas of Japan the drug stores are all open and its business as usual? Think again!
